Las Vegas Hotel Needs Personal Fire Safety Equipment for Guests

Monte Carlo Hotel Fire – On January 25th, 2008, 13 people suffered smoke inhalation during a three-alarm blaze at the Monte Carlo Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, Six of the injured were transported to the local University Medical Center.

This was a spectacular fire that was raging atop the landmark Monte Carlo Resort and Casino on the Strip, consuming large portions of the complex's top floors and sending plumes of thick black smoke into the air. Over
120 firefighters and 35 fire trucks and other equipment from Clark County, Henderson and Las Vegas Fire Departments were at the blaze, which the fire chief called an exterior fire. He said the exterior of the building was made of a “very flammable foam façade”.

Some room sprinklers were activated, but no rooms were on fire. There was only minor damage inside the building, and the danger zone was around the hotel because of falling debris and embers. Debris and foam were falling from the blaze and catching other parts of the hotel on fire. Firefighters had to hang from windows to extinguish some of the flames.

The Monte Carlo, a subsidiary of MGM Mirage, has about 3,000 employees. In 1980, a fire across the street at the MGM Grand Hotel, now Ballys, killed 84 people and injured nearly 700.

This bring us to the subject of fire safety within hotels and high-rise buildings. You would think in today’s world, a $65 smoke mask would be a great investment for each guest and employee within the hotel. Over 3000 guests and employees where in the hotel at the time of the Monte Carlo Casino fire. For as little as $195,000 the hotel could have made sure that all employees and guests would have at least 30 minutes of breathable air in order to evacuate the hotel or even wait to be rescued.

                                                               smoke mask

The facts are, smoke inhalation has been found to be the leading cause of death in fires.

More than 75% of fire related deaths are caused by smoke inhalation and most Americans do not have the proper protection. If a fire were to break out in your home, office or hotel room you would probably already know the quickest escape route and the nearest exits. However, most of us are not prepared to outrun smoke inhalation.

That is why we suggest that most of the major hotels and casinos in Las Vegas equip each room with 4 smoke hoods. These smoke hoods and smoke masks are a small price to pay vs. the money that an insurance company would shell out just for the death of one guest or employee.

    Hi,
Contributes towards the research into the potential dangers of unprotected hotel rooms by highlighting the incidence, and cause, of some major hotel fires in Asia and USA. Additionally, through the use of fire modelling computer software, predicts various fire scenarios inside the guest room, demonstrates how little time is available for evacuation, and states that without specific precautions, fire fatalities will continue to occur.

Before you co-sign for a loan, be sure you can afford to pay the debt if the borrower defaults on the loan. You may feel confident that this won't happen, but consider the unexpected: people lose their jobs, become ill or disabled, or die unexpectedly. Others are just irresponsible.

There should be a law that mandates all hotels to keep gas masks in their rooms. A small but such an important thing cannot be overlooked. In fact, any high rise building, such as, office buildings and hotels, should all be record to follow this law.

The most significant and concerned areas are buildings and offices. Apparently, the presence of these safety devices motivates people to work and do something in order to protect or guard their family members, occupants and workers. Various such safety devices have also been installed in homes and industries as an element of protection.

I've heard that you can rent a car from some hotels for as little as $20 for the day. I'm staying at the New York-New York Hotel. Just wondering if this is true and if you have to be a guest of that hotel for that offer or is there any other cheaper options out there. Lowest one I can find online is $30/day at Pay less Car Rental. Thanks for your help!
